Eugene "Gene' Edgar Howrey, 64, Rt 6 died Wednesday morning in Culver Hospital. Mr. Howrey retired a year ago from his position as sales representative for Chicago Paints, Inc. He had sales territories in Illinois, Iowa and Indiana. He was a member and past commander of the American Legion at Fairfield, Iowa and was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church. A graduate of Danville HS at Danville, Ill, he attended Notre Dame University and graduated there in1 932. While at the university he was a member of the Monogram Club and varsity track team and cross country team. Born April 5, 1906 at Kingman, he was the son of Clarence Edgar and Lavena Kirby Howrey. He married Ellen Pauline Boord May 18, 1935 at Danville, Ill. He is survived by his wife, a teacher at Tuttle Junior HS one daughter, Sara Pauline Howrey of Stanford, Conn; two sons, Eugen ePhillip of Philadelphia and Richard Boord, a student at DePauw University; two brothers, Weldon of Peoria and James of Danville, Ill and four grandchildren. A memorial mass will be said at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Bernard's Church. There will be no calling hours and the family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society. -- kbz
